Johnny Archer wears the number nine proudly!
It was a hectic weekend for Johnny Archer at the "Super Series of Billiards". World wide Sport of Billiards president, Larry Chiborak had him doing interview after interview. It just may have taken away his focus in the first few days of this historic event. Johnny struggled Thursday and Friday during the round robin event. Saturday, it was a different story. Archer was on fire and continued his run into the play-offs! He climbed all the way from fourth in the round robin to finishing runner-up to Francisco Bustamante. It could have been a different finish if Johnny would have won game six of the exciting finals. Archer made a slip while going for a seemingly easy finish to knot the series at three games apiece. Instead it went to four games to two and Bustamante smelled blood in the water. This shark was in a frenzy as he finished off Archer, five games to two. For Johnny's great effort, he was awarded four bonus points for climbing from fourth place in the round robin to the finals. Bustamante still out paced him by receiving four bonus points for winning the round robin and one bonus point each for pocketing the most points and the most Bonus Balls. These bonus points are added to the WPBL points awarded for the final positions of each event. In the end, these bonus points may be worth a lot more than they seem to now.
NEWS: Larry Chiborak and Barry Bremner were down in Chesapeake, Virgina for the 2011 US Nine Ball Open. The mandate was to secure as many top pool players as possible to take the WPBL in a new direction. The WPBL will become a professional billiard league featuring top American, Canadian and top European players. A venue is being secured to have eight teams playing in a regular season with play-offs, like other main stream sports. The date of this new league will be announced shortly.
"We plan on having PPV of all the teams for the inaugrual season." states Barry Bremner. "The players have responded to our concept, overwhelming! No longer will these professionals have to try and whittle their way through a field of two hundred amateurs to win a tournament. The WPBL will only house professional players." remarked Larry Chiborak, president of The World Wide Sport of Billiards. The game of Bonus Ball is the choice of the WPBL. "No other game challenges professionals like Bonus Ball. Bonus Ball brings each players back to the table that creates a new kind of billiard game. This is a now lacking the old traditional games." replies Barry Bremner. "You will find watching billiards much more exciting when players interact whith each other."
